PODCAST

Listen to People, Planning, Stories

What can we learn from each other? For our podcast People, Planning, Stories, we invite members of local campaigns, community groups, residents associations, small businesses and other groups to talk about their experiences with the planning system.

In each episode, you can hear about the challenges our guests encountered and how they successfully engaged with the planning process. Hear more about their wins and what could have gone better, and learn their lessons.

Looking for more stories? We have several case studies on community campaigns and plans, which you find here.

Episode I: Long Live Southbank campaign

For our first episode, we are joined by Louis and Stuart by the Long Live Southbank campaign. A coalition of skateboarders, artists, local residents and others came together to save their favourite skateboarding spot at Southbank Centre from development. The campaign got worldwide support and led on the restoration of previously closed parts of the Undercroft Skate Space, which reopened in 2019.

Episode II: Friends of the Joiners Arms campaign

In this episode, we speak with Amy, Peter, Silver and Olimpia from the Friends of the Joiners Arms (FOTJA). FOTJA is a community campaign working to re-open and evolve the beloved pub Joiners Arms into London's first community-run late-license LGBTQIA+ pub. The campaign successfully secured a planning condition that ensures the new development will include a LGBTQ+ run pub. And has recently managed to get funding for a temporary space.
